The part is made of durable aluminum and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. The cap has a pipe opening of 8" and has exterior dimensions of 8 5/8" H x 14.5" Dia. Does this cap fit a 5" inside and an 8"outside?

This cap will indeed fit Simpson DirectVent Pro 5 inch inner/ 8 inch outer vent pipe. Please verify this is the brand of pipe you have, as this cap will not properly attach to other 5/8 direct vent pipe systems.
