With dependability provided by a limited lifetime warranty and galvanized steel components, this firestop radiation shield forms an important part of the safety mechanism protecting your home from damage during a fire emergency. This piece is used with DuraTech's all fuel six inch chimney pipe assembly, used with a variety of heating appliances.

Customer Q&A with Product Specialists

Dan R. from Veneta Oregon asked:
I need a radiant shield for a vaulted ceiling. Is this the correct part?
I need a radiant shield for a vaulted ceiling. Is this the correct part?
The DuraTech 6DT-FRS Firestop Radiation Shield is designed for situations where a chimney passes through a floor or ceiling that lacks a ceiling support box. In multi-story installations, it's required at each floor or ceiling penetration above the support box level, but not where the chimney exits the roof. For true cathedral or vaulted ceilings where the ceiling follows the roofline, DuraTech installations typically use a Roof Support or a Square Ceiling Support Box at the roof line, rather than a Firestop Radiation Shield. If your vaulted ceiling has an attic space above it, an Attic Insulation Shield is necessary wherever the chimney enters an unoccupied attic. To ensure you have the correct components for your specific vaulted ceiling installation, please provide the following details: (1) If this is a new chimney installation or if you are connecting to existing pipe (and if so, its manufacturer and model); (2) Whether your vaulted ceiling is open to the roofline or has an attic structure above it; and (3) Your roof pitch. With this information, we can identify the precise DuraTech part needed. You can review these requirements in the DuraTech Installation Manual here: DuraTech Installation Manual.
