My house came with the basic fireplace grate. We were constantly adjusting the fire to keep it going. I finally measured the inside of my fireplace and realized a larger grate would fit. The Dagan 30" was the perfect width. If I remember correctly, it's wider at the front. The depth is slightly bigger than we wanted, but we keep the logs slightly back from the front to keep the smoke going up the flu. The height clearance is great for drawing air. Once we get this going, we just add logs every once in a while. Having more logs helps keep the fires hot and easy to maintain. I wish I had replaced my small grate years ago. I'm sure this reads like an add, but I am 100% happy with the purchase. At first, I thought about getting a longer gas line plumbed to start the fire, but there's no need. The other side catches pretty quickly.
