If the flow of smoke is going up, how does the female top provide a seal to prevent smoke from coming out of pipe.
The draft is under a negative pressure and, if the system is clean and no obstructions present, will pull air into the chimney rather than lead smoke out. However, the seal is fairly tight and should not pull any additional air into the venting system.
