What Fireplace Logs Media is Right for Me?
Trying to figure out what look you want for your fireplace can be confusing—fireplace logs and media can be the same. However, it doesn't have to be! Picking what you want and exactly what you need is easier with fireplace logs and glass media. So, let's cover both media type and style for your fireplace!
Media Type
When it comes to fireplace media sets, there are really three primary choices. Each has its own appeal, and you might find one speaks to you more than the others. Truly, fireplace media comes down to personal tastes and what you envision for your home or space.
- Logs – As you might imagine, log media consists of faux logs made of either refractory cement or ceramic fiber. Like real wood, these can come in various styles and appearances, which we'll cover shortly.
- Glass – Fire glass is specially treated glass that won't combust in your fireplace. We can not emphasize enough that not all glass can be used in a fireplace. Tempered fire glass can come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, making them fully customizable in a way that some prefer.
- Artistic Media – "Artistic media" may sound like a catch-all term for media that doesn't fit into the other two categories. Most artistic media consists of metal art resembling spirals, cannon balls, coal baskets, or other abstract shapes. These are perfect for a more contemporary space or if you want a pointed focal point in your hearth.
Media Style
The phrase "media style" can encompass a lot, so let's talk about what you can use to decide what style you want for your media type choice. Here are a few general guidelines to follow.
The "style" of the log set generally refers to the type of log, such as oak, birch, driftwood, pine, and others.
As we previously mentioned, fire glass comes in a number of different colors, including metallic. In this case, color is the same as style. Stones can also be categorized with fire glass since they must also be specially treated or manufactured before being used in a fireplace.
A coal or log basket is also considered self-explanatory. These are complete kits of a basket and media.
