I am building a new house and looking for a low-cost, see-through, wood-burning fireplace to install between a living room and a back porch. Can you advise?
A see-through fireplace installed in an exterior wall, with one side facing an indoor living room and the other facing an outdoor porch, requires specialized indoor-outdoor listing and safety compliance beyond standard see-through units. The FireRock 30 Inch See-Through Vented Masonry Fireplace is a wood-burning see-through model, but an 'indoor and outdoor' rating alone does not permit its use in an exterior wall between conditioned indoor space and the outdoors. For such exterior-wall applications, only fireplaces explicitly listed with an 'Indoor-Outdoor' see-through rating are supported.
The see-through models available that explicitly carry this 'Indoor-Outdoor' listing are gas units (either direct vent or vent-free), not wood-burning. Therefore, we cannot confirm a wood-burning fireplace for a true indoor-to-outdoor exterior-wall see-through installation. We will have our team verify if any wood-burning option can be sourced for this specific application before recommending a unit.

That is correct. The fireplace requires a mortar kit to assemble, plus refractory brick/lining and venting, if the stack needs to be taller than what comes with the fireplace.
