Wondering if this hearth rug needs a non-slip pad underneath?
If this rug is not being placed on carpet but rather on a hardwood floor or tile floor, we would indeed recommend a non-slip pad.

Rug description was accurate
We have been using this rug for the last month and have found it to be of excellent quality. It has a short nap but will apparently “intercept” any sparks escaping from the fireplace since it is wool. The rug is a semi-circle so the 2’ or 3’ measurement is taken from the top arc of the rug to the flat side against the fireplace.
We have oak floors, so the rug does have a tendency to move around if the cat wants to attack it. We have successfully used a product called “Shurtape” that minimizes movement on potentially slippery surfaces for our other entry carpets as needed so we did not buy the “antiskid” pad sold as an accessory.
There is only 1 piece of advice I can offer any buyer. The rug is well packed with the bottom rolled on the outside of the rug. Because of that, the outer edge curls slightly upward when laid flat and could become a tripping hazard for some people. Since I kept the original packing box, I will pack it away after fireplace season with the rug nap facing outward which should counter, or at least minimize, upward curling of the rug ends next season.

Nice looking, does what it's supposed to
Replaced a polyester rug with this wool version. The old rug worked fine, but the dark, melted spots where embers hit it before I could stomp them out were pretty unsightly. This one is a dark grey blend which so far has not shown any damage from the occasional embers. More expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Large and perfect!
We have a rather wide fireplace and have had issues in the past with embers flying out and ruining our carpet. After installing new carpeting it was imperative that we find a rug wide and deep enough to assure this would never happen again.
