If you want an easier fire-starting solution, install a gas log lighter. This log lighter kit by Hearth Products Controls makes installation fairly simple and includes a 17" straight stainless steel burner tube, a propane air mixer, a connector and end cap, and an elbow. The tube can be connected together with other sections. Please note that the kit does not include the valve. Complete installation according to instructions and you will be able to light your fire without having to mess with newspaper or kindling.

Can this be used with a zero clearance fireplace?
    1 Answer
This may indeed be used with most all zero clearance wood burning fireplaces, however, there are a few high-efficiency wood burning fireplaces that are essentially wood stoves that may be framed within. With these zero clearance fireplaces, a gas log lighter may not be used. I recommend referring to the product literature included with your fireplace to determine if the model you currently own may be used with a gas log lighter.

    Is this UL listed?
    1 Answer
Unfortunately, no. Due to the relatively low cost of the item and the high cost of the listing process, no log lighters will be UL listed.

What is the diameter of the flame holes and the amount of space between each hole?
    1 Answer
Per the manufacturer, the drilled holes are approximately 1 1/2" apart from each other from center to center. The holes themselves are drilled with a 3/32" bit.
