My chimney flue is either oval or rectangle with rounded corners. It measures 10 inches by 17 3/4 inches. With this adjustable chimney cap work? If it does, does it fit round the outside of the unit or does it nestle inside the unit? Thank you
That cap would be fine on that shaped and size flue. It does attach to the clay flue itself. However California requires a tighter mesh pattern (5/8") then that cap has (3/4"). Therefore it is not allowed to be used in the state of California only. There are other caps that will work. Such as Draft King 10 in. x 17 in. Black Painted Galvanized Steel 'California' Single Flue Chimney Cover.

Adjustable Single Flue Chimney Cover
The Adjustable Single Flue Chimney Cover was any install to our flue sleeve. This eliminated the down draft that kept blowing out my pilot on my outdoor fireplace. The look of the black finish looks great. The only change I had to do was change to different screws since the supplied screws were not machine threads had pointed ends for sheet metal and does not work well screwing into the tile sleeve. Went to Home Depot and got some longer sheet metal screws and cut the tips off as to have a blunt end to screw up against the tile sleeve.

Mounting screws on hardware mounts should have been machine holes and screws for better mounting with the tile sleeve.

Aside from the ladder climb that proved to be the hardest part of installing this chimney cap, everything proved to be a breeze. Best of all, there is no more water coming into my chimney on rainy days.
