I have an oval clay pipe coming out of the top of my fireplace. The dimensions are as follows; 17.25 inches long X 12.75 wide X 6.25 inches tall. Will this Large painted black galvanized steel adjustable single flue chimney cover fit those dimensions?
    1 Answer
With the dimensions provided, I would recommend the Draft King 13 in. x 17 in. Oval or 13 in. x 18 in. Rectangle Black Painted Galvanized Steel 'California' Single Flue Chimney Cover as I believe it would be a better fit for your oval clay flue.

My flue is 11" x 15". I am trying to see if I can use this chimney cover. What are the dimensions of the mesh base? A neighbor has the small unit on their house, and looking at that, I saw that their unit was basically 12" x 12" and the brackets on the bottom of the unit are what adjust it to the different sizes. Therefore, on smaller flues (i.e. 8" x 8"), you could have several inches of overhang. What do you think?
    1 Answer
Per the manufacturer, the actual screen size for this cap is 13.5 by 18.5, so there would be a small amount of overlap for your application. The engineering department at the manufacturer is confident that this size cap would work well for your application.

My chimney doesn't have the cement part nor the cover. What needs to be done to get my chimney to look like the above picture?
    1 Answer
The chimney in the picture features a clay flue with a brick surround. The juncture between the flue and the brick is sealed with mortar or cement. This wash can be made from a tub of our Castable Cement. Please find our cement by following the below link. Rutland Castable Refractory Fireplace Cement - 12.5 Pound Tub Once your wash is finished, you may install the above cap.

    Should have Gotten Sooner
In retrospect, I believe my biggest mistake was to have waited so long to make the decision to go out and purchase this for my chimney. Aside from climbing on the ladder to install it, everything about this product was easy to handle.

    Grateful to Have
Even though I am a proud owner of this product, my ability to purchase one was made difficult due to Arizona's business regulations. Thankfully, I figured out how to get it.

    Eliminated Rain in Chimney
Aside from the ladder climb that proved to be the hardest part of installing this chimney cap, everything proved to be a breeze. Best of all, there is no more water coming into my chimney on rainy days.

    Worth It
This chimney cover is definitely worth the money that one will need to pay in order to purchase it. What really impressed me is how easy it was to actually install it. Even though it was not a requirement for me to do so, I decided to go ahead and get some sandpaper and lightly sand the covers to help give it additional protection. Overall, the service that this cover has given to my fireplace and to my home requires that it receive a rating of five stars.

    Must Have
The price of this product was excellent and the installation was a piece of cake. Best of all, this product is easy to adjust so I feel quite confident that if need ever arises; it will be quite easy to solve any problems that happen to arise. Just be sure to check the dimensions of your chimney to make sure you have the right item.

    Research Before Installing
Let me start off this review by stating that recently I had the opportunity to install a total of three of these caps. Overall, they are good products, but there are some design issues that need to be pointed out so that anyone installing them will know about it beforehand. When it comes to assembling it and installing it onto the chimney, there is not a great deal of labor or time involved. Here, the design is such that it has greatly simplified the installation process since it is made to go on very smoothly. Even though this is great at keeping most of the bugs and rain out of my fireplace, I am concerned that it might get blown off in a high wind. In addition, the galvanized steel that is used is susceptible to rusting. Finally, this item is not able to keep the really small insects out of the fireplace, so you will still need to deal with them on occasion.
