Outstanding wood fireplace insert
I grew up in the mountains of SW Virginia. My dad had two wood stoves, and we heated our two-story house and finished basement with them. I have been using an open fireplace since 2012, when I moved into my grandparents' home. An open fireplace is not efficient, as heat goes up through the chimney. I researched inserts and chose the Montlake 230. I have only had 2 days cold enough to date to use the insert, but cold weather is coming this weekend and next week. I am amazed at how much heat this unit puts out with just a small fire. It is advertised as 77,000 BTU, and I believe it. I am planning to heat this one-level home as much as possible with this unit this winter. I'm setting up a fan in both hallways to push the heat into the rest of the house. It's a heavy, well-built unit with a cooktop. I highly recommend this unit and the efireplace store. Their experts helped me with measurements over the phone prior to choosing and ordering.
