Is the 5th generation compatible with the 3rd generation?
Unfortunately, the 5th generation MRCOOL units are not compatible with 3rd generation units. This is primarily due to differences in the refrigerant systems used; the 5th generation utilizes R-454B refrigerant, which is not interchangeable with the refrigerants used in older generations.

Great MRCOOL Mini-Split, Minor Duct Fit Mention
This MRCOOL 12K BTU Advantage unit is a solid performer. I did have to trim the existing 6-inch galvanized sheet metal duct slightly (about 2 inches) for a perfect fit, so be prepared for that if using standard ductwork. Overall, very happy with the cooling!

Good for MRCOOL 12K, Tabs a Little Tricky
This storm collar seems to do the job for my MRCOOL 12K unit. The folding tabs are a bit shorter and slightly harder to tighten down compared to previous models I''ve used. Overall, it''s functional for its intended purpose.
