This fireback is made of 100% cast iron. This material absorbs the heat from the fire and then radiates it forward into your room to increase the heating efficiency of your fireplace. The iron also acts as a heat shield for the rear masonry wall of the firebox to reduce damage and repairs. The design lends itself to either vertical or horizontal installation and will give the fireplace extra visual appeal, whether the fire is lit or not. The item is made by hand in the USA from a design by the artist J. Del Conner. The fireback's dimensions are 21.5" W x 18" H and it weighs 42 lbs. Can I place it on the base of the fireplace and lean it against a wall or set it on top of the grate?

This unit can indeed be placed directly on the firebox floor and leaned against the back wall. The separate feet are only required if additional stability is needed or you need to raise the fire back for any reason.

Great Investment
