What is the white screen made of?

The screen is a flat black metal screen. The image appears to show that the mesh is white, but it is really black. There is a second photo (link below the larger photo) of the screen in front of a burning fireplace that should make it easier to see the screen's true appearance. The mesh is constructed of very thin steel.
