Every chimney for a wood-burning stove or fireplace will need regular maintenance to remove creosote buildup. Creosote left untreated can reduce the effectiveness of the heating system while increasing the likelihood of chimney fires. Hiring a professional to clean the chimney can be very costly, but this powdered creosote remover makes the job simple and inexpensive. Merely add a scoop of the powder to your fire and allow it to burn as usual. The creosote deposits will turn into a loose powder than can easily be brushed away. The remover is safe to use in all types of chimneys and is designed for airtight wood-burning stoves and fireplace inserts.

Can this Rutland powdered creosote remover be used in wood pellet stoves?
    1 Answer
You could use this product, but it would not be very effective. The amount of air in the vent system for your pellet stove will not provide enough circulation for this product to remove creosote at the same rate when used in common wood stove chimneys. We do, however, offer the ACS 1 Gallon Container - Case of Four - 79075 and this product may be used with pellet stoves. You would simply spray the pellets in the hopper and combustion chamber to prevent the buildup of ash and clogging of your pellet stove. In addition, this product is used to also remove thin layers of creosote in your chimney and will be much more effective as it will not rely on a large volume of air in the chimney to produce results as it is sprayed directly on the interior chimney surface.

Are the cleaning logs as good as this powdered creosote remover? I brush out my chimney insert after 1 1/2 - 2 cords are burned but I still find that a good deal of material in the grooves remains.
    1 Answer
The powdered creosote remover is highly effective at converting creosote to an easily brushable substance. I cannot say the cleaning logs work as well and cannot recommend them over the powder.
