I have a Baby Bear Fisher wood stove; what hearth pad should I buy?
We do not carry Fisher wood stoves and do not have manufacturer clearance specifications for the Baby Bear model on file, so we cannot confirm an exact hearth pad size for your unit. The correct size depends on the clearance requirements listed on the stove's data plate or in its owner's manual. As a general code guideline for freestanding solid fuel stoves, a UL-listed stove typically requires at least 16 inches of protection in front of the loading door and 8 inches on either side. If the stove is not UL-listed, the front clearance increases to a minimum of 18 inches. For a freestanding stove with no listed clearance over a combustible floor, a common rule of thumb is a hearth pad extending 36 inches in all directions from the edge of the stove. Because the Baby Bear is an older model, we recommend checking the data plate on the stove or consulting a local chimney or hearth professional to confirm the exact clearance figures before choosing a size.
