Does the door swing out from the side?

This ash dump door is designed to be used inside of the fireplace and the door pivots at about the 2/3 distance on the door. It is designed to be installed flat on the firebox floor.

While the ash dumps we offer would all seemingly work with the larger 8" opening, the outer flange for these products measures 5 1/2 inches and would not provide a tight fit.

Ash Door
I really like having an ash door on our fire place. It makes the appearance look much cleaner with the box in place because prior to putting this in there was no door and you could see all the ash.
