We are building our own stove board. Is it enough to have a cement board with grouted porcelain tile affixed to it? We are getting a wood-burning stove with legs.
The materials would need to equal at least the minimum R-value of a Type 2 stove board, which is 1.0. Typically factory produced boards will exceed this minimum and range from 1.592 to 2.24 R-value. 1/2" cement board only carries and R-value of .390 and ceramic tile(1/4" thick) will carry an R-value of .250.

The tile and stone stove boards can support that much weight. The metal boards could warp or dent from the weight of a heavy stove.

The stove boards cannot be cut, as the fiberboard on the bottom side will fall apart after you cut it.
