You don't have to give up the charm of the natural world just because you've installed a modern fire pit. TrueFlame's Black Lava Rock fire pit media features all the craggy shapes and unique pits of real lava rock because it IS real lava rock! TrueFlame's natural lava rock looks excellent as the sole media in your fire feature, but it also works as a great base layer to support sparkling fire glass or gas logs. This lava flowstone is inherently highly heat-resistant and incredibly durable, making it the perfect choice for high-capacity fire pits and fire bowls.

Please Note: Refer to media guide to determine how much lava rock is needed for your TrueFlame fire pit and burner.

Customer Q&A with Product Specialists

I need black lava rock to cover a square area in my fire pit that is 35 inches by 35 inches. I'm not sure how many pounds I would need. Can you help with this?
Hi Kathy, for a square fire pit area of 35 inches by 35 inches, we recommend approximately 30-35 pounds of TrueFlame Black Lava Rock Fire Pit Media. Based on our media guide for square fire pits, a 34-inch fire pit typically requires 30 pounds of lava rock. To ensure ample coverage for your 35-inch area, a 35-pound bag of the TrueFlame Black Lava Rock (SKU: TRU-FG-LAVA-40) would be the most appropriate option. Please note that the exact amount and depth of lava rock needed can vary depending on your specific fire pit and burner. We strongly advise checking the installation manual for your fire pit burner to determine the appropriate depth and adjust the quantity accordingly.
