Ventis HES140 Wood Burning Stove

Great stove. Excellent value.

We ordered this stove for auxiliary heat in a one story 32'x28' home with full finished basement. We installed it in the basement where it's capable of keeping the whole (very well-insulated) house at comfortable temps as long as it's fed with fuel - 2-4 loads a day. It's very efficient. It's easy to start and maintain the fire. We only gave four stars because it's not possible to prevent room air from being drawn into the stove and up the chimney which is especially a problem when the stove isn't being used. It appears that all the secondary air is drawn from room air though we'd happily be corrected. The primary air intake is routed through the base of the stove and no attention seems to have been given to sealing it. While we have added the outside air adapter and sealed the intake duct up to the stove connection, there remains significant opportunity for room air to be pulled into the stove through the seams in the base. There are no markings for the primary air control. We made five marks with a file on the front skirt just above the control to make it easier to set and detect it's position.

Pros

Easy operation Good secondary combustion engineering Good capacity for a small stove Great value

Cons

Poorly sealed air intake plenum Secondary air drawn from inside? No markings for primary air control setting Noisy circulation fan (optional)
