A Quick Guide to Measuring for Gas Logs

You're almost ready to find your perfect fireplace log set! But, we need to cover one more step – which might be one of the most important. It needs to fit into your fireplace to ensure the best experience with your log set. These measurements are crucial, and we're here to guide you through it. But what do you measure? How do we measure it? Let's discuss that now!

Front Width: "What do you mean front width? Isn't that just the width?" Good question! But not quite. The front width refers to the width of the fireplace opening. Take your measuring tape and go from the inner edge of the metal face of the fireplace on both sides.

Back Width: Fireplaces are often tapered as they are recessed into the wall. When this is the case, the rear width must also be measured. To do so, use your tape measure across the very back wall of the fireplace's burning area.

Height: This measurement should be self-explanatory. Simply measure the height of your fireplace opening.

Depth: Different log sets have different depth requirements to look more full. To measure the depth, use your tape measure on the fireplace floor to measure from the lip of the fireplace opening to the back wall.

Once you've gathered all these measurements, you're all set to find your perfect fireplace log set! And if you ever need further assistance, our NFI-certified technicians are just a click or a phone call away, ready to help with all your gas log needs.
