A gas coal basket provides old-world charm to any classically-styled den or living room, and Aspen Industries' Master Flame Royal Gas Coal Burner lights up your home from the hearth outwards. This burner has all-steel construction and multiple gas valve options, including remote control and electronic ignition. Adjust the flame low to emulate a gently-glowing bed of coals for cool fall days, then crank the fire up for a lively, roaring aesthetic when winter snow comes. Aspen Industries gives you just what you need in the Master Flame Royal Gas Coal Burner to transform your neglected vented fireplace into the centerpiece of your home.

Please Note: This is a coal burner only. A coal basket must be purchased separately.

Also Note: This burner fits most standard coal basket designs.

Hi Kevin, based on your description that the pilot light comes on but the main gas will not light on your Aspen Industries Master Flame Royal Natural Gas Coal Burner, this often indicates an issue with the thermocouple.

Your unit likely uses a millivolt valve system. In this system, the pilot flame heats a small probe called a thermocouple. The thermocouple generates a small amount of voltage that energizes an electromagnet in the gas valve, holding it open and allowing gas to flow to the main burner. If the pilot flame goes out, the thermocouple cools, and the gas valve automatically closes as a safety measure to stop the flow of gas.

When the pilot lights but the main burner doesn't ignite, it suggests the thermocouple might not be generating enough voltage to keep the gas valve fully open, even if the pilot flame appears lit. Common causes include soot buildup on the thermocouple, which can impede its ability to heat properly, or a faulty thermocouple itself.

While you can attempt to clean a thermocouple with a thin strip of emery cloth or 320-grit sandpaper (after ensuring the unit is cool and the gas is turned off), and then use compressed air to clear any debris, we highly recommend contacting an NFI certified installer, licensed plumber, or chimney sweep for diagnosis and repair. Working with gas appliances can be dangerous, and professional assistance ensures the repair is done safely and correctly, adhering to warranty requirements and local building codes.
