A Top-Lock damper can save you energy because it creates a tighter seal than the usual metal-to-metal damper of most fireplaces. It consists of a stainless steel lid attached to the cast aluminum frame with steel spring wires. It closes tightly with a silicone rubber seal when the fire is not lit. The unit operates because of a 30' cable that passes through the chimney and mounts in the firebox. It also has a safety device that locks the damper open in the case of a chimney fire. The item carries a manufacturer's warranty for all fuels. Top sealing are not recommended for use with gas logs because of the risk of inadvertent carbon monoxide buildup. The dimensions of the damper are 8" W x 13" L and it fits inside flue sizes of 6" x 9" to 9-1/2" x 12-1/2". It has a cross sectional area of 49 square inches.

How does this product attach to the chimney flue?
A bead of high temperature adhesive must be spread around the inside perimeter of the frame to attach this cap to the top of your existing clay flue tile. The manufacturer recommends letting the adhesive cure for a 24 hour period before proceeding with the remainder of the installation.
