If my fireplace height is 21 inches, would this be too tall?
The 22-inch screen would drag and we would not recommend that. This 20-inch screen would measure 20.5 inches tall.

How does the spark screen attach to the rod?
In almost all cases, the screen rod will have an overlap point in the center of the opening that is held in place by a clamping mechanism. The clamp must be loosened in order to allow the rods to slide inward, allowing you to install the new mesh screen.
