I have a standard 8" ceramic thimble connected to my masonry chimney. My oil boiler currently connects to it, but I'm removing the oil boiler and installing a wood stove. Do you know if this is the adapter that will slide into the thimble? I could get a measurement, but it's just a standard 8" thimble and I need an adapter to slide into it.
    1 Answer
This adapter is actually meant to begin your stovepipe run from the top of the appliance to the first section of stovepipe. In almost every installation, a standard section of stovepipe is cut to the correct length, inserted into the thimble so that it is flush with the inside wall of the chimney liner, then attached to the 90 degree elbow that is used outside the thimble. Only if the thimble is set into a combustible veneer would any special adapter be needed.

    Precise Measurements is a Must
A fine piece of metal work, to be sure, but be certain that you measure precisely the "appliance" for which you intend to use this adapter. It DOES NOT fit a Vermont Castings stove oval to 8" round adapter. For the Defiant stove, at least, buy Item #CPF-69095, the Dura-Black skirted adapter. It works perfectly, and looks great, too.
    ProsQuality of materials and assembly.
ConsNothing; I obviously ordered the wrong product,
