I have someone installing the stove pipe for my wood burning stove. He says that the triple wall section must go through the opening in the ceiling. Right now, I see 2 feet of stainless steel triple wall pipe above the black chimney pipe in my room. I have never seen this before. Is there something that I am missing?

It does indeed sound like a component is missing. Usually, a round ceiling support or a square ceiling support box is used to make the transition from stovepipe to chimney pipe, as you pass through the ceiling. An example is the DuraPlus All-Fuel Chimney Round Ceiling Support or the Dura-Vent DuraTech 6 Inch Square Ceiling Support Box for Close Clearance. These components are manufacturer specific and must be made by the same company and series as the chimney pipe.
