Is there a baffle inside this item that sucks closed upon a down draft?

No, this item is installed on top of one of the FMI round termination caps (RLT-8DM or RT-8DM) and simply shields the sides of the of the cap.

anti draft sheild
Does its job very well! Had a very heavy rain driven by a strong side wind and had no issues with water entering the flue.
Please note this item did not fit properly. When I contacted your store I was told it was due to the type of terminator cap I had. I had to make due as I already had the chimney done and did not want to start taking it apart. Maybe a question to ask the next time a customer orders a anti draft shield: "What type of cap do you have?"

A MUST PURCHASE!!
This anti-draft shield works AMAZING!! We've never once had backdraft of smoke in our house after we purchased this item and we use our fireplace a lot and get some pretty strong 40-50 MPH winds several months out of the year. Best thing we ever purchased!! Just be sure and have the minimum clearance they recommend to the top of your chimney chase for it to work properly.
