If I am not interested in running the blower on this unit would it be possible to operate the low voltage controls purely off of the battery backup? My current fireplace with natural gas logs does not have 120v available.
Yes, this unit will operate off the batteries for the ignitor system.

This unit does not come with a remote, but has an optional on/off or thermostatic remote available as an accessory.

My fireplace is 26 3/4” tall, with the 6” surround the insert is 26 1/4 tall. If I place the stove on a 1” stone slab to close the top gap, can I use a piece of trim to cover the bottom gap this would leave?
Yes, you may use pavers or other noncombustible material to raise the insert enough to make the surround cover the opening. There is an optional bottom trim that can then be used to cover the bottom portion.
