No, this unit cannot be vented purely horizontally without extending above the roofline. The RH50CB is a natural vent (B-vent style) propane heater, and its installation manual requires the vent to terminate above the roofline. The venting must include a vertical rise at least twice the length of any horizontal run and extend at least 2 feet above the roof. Additionally, it must be at least 2 feet above any object or nearby building within a 10-foot radius. You can find detailed venting requirements in the installation manual.

According to the Empire installation manual for the RH50CB, at elevations above 2,000 feet, the input rating must be reduced by 4 percent for every 1,000 feet above sea level. Empire Is Quality
I should say at the outset that I have had many very positive experiences with empire products. I am quite pleased to report that this item is definitely no exception. I have installed it in a large apartment, and every time it has been fired up to keep the facility at a comfortable temperature, it has managed to do so with the greatest of ease. I chose this item because the apartment itself has an unusual layout that makes it impossible to install a standard unit. Thankfully, this has managed to do a good job and my tenant is quite happy with the results.
