My fireplace is 38" wide. Can I use this unit to protect our wood mantel if the hood would be mounted on brick?

This product is exclusively for Empire products as it mounts to the inside of the opening. Empire does make an adjustable universal option that is available. A hood is a great way to help keep heat away from combustible materials.

A fireplace hood can definitely help to deflect the heat away from an item above the fireplace opening. It is also suggested to install a mantel. Please note that some electronics' warranties are void if placed above a heating appliance. Please consult your manual or manufacturer.
