Where do you put the ember?

There's a specific area on the burner where the embers are meant to be placed. If you click here and go to page 14, you will find figure 13, which has a shaded area indicating the spot where the embers are placed.

Manual contour burners do not have a manual option and instead you will need to look at the VFDR30LBN model with the same Flint Hill logs. That burner will have the option to add a remote.

What is the manual contour burner of this Empire 30 inch Flint Hill ceramic fiber ventless natural gas log set?

A contour burner is a "U" shaped aluminum burner design. The burner wraps around on one side of the set, giving the appearance of two defined rows of flame. The manual control is in reference to the pilot assembly, which is a manual on and off type of control.

Decent quality. Easy install
These ventless gas logs are pretty good in quality. The install was a zip.
Easy install
Wish flame was bigger but it would probably be a fire hazard.
