The Dimplex Built-In Box for Opti-Myst Pro Electric Fireplaces makes a sturdy and reliable foundation for your new unique fireplace. This built-in fireplace system gives you the pleasure of a beautiful fire without worrying about harmful emissions or inefficient venting systems. The Built-In Box's glossy back panel enhances the effects of Opti-Myst Pro's Casette by reflecting the light of the simulated flames. This system allows you to create a beautiful see-through electric fireplace by replacing the opaque back with an additional glass panel.
Please Note: This unit is a firebox only. It does not include the necessary cassette or the optional back glass panel for see-thru applications.

This is indeed vent-free, but it is an electric appliance; it does not use gas.

What would be the dimensions of a fireplace mantel that would fit the 40" Opti-Myst? Do you need anything else so that the fireplace can plug into a wall outlet?
There is no mantel cabinet available for this fireplace, though you can custom-build one around the fireplace if desired. Please see the installation instructions, which shows the dimensions you need for a cabinet opening around the firebox. Meanwhile, yes, you will need a plug kit if you want to use a plug for this unit.
