The Drolet Escape 1500-I Wood Burning Fireplace Insert Kit - 35 Feet is a neat way to boost your home's warmth and charm. This unit runs with a non-catalytic combustion system, making it a pretty efficient way to heat your living space. You get a nice view of the crackling fire through a ceramic glass window, all framed with tough cast iron. It comes with everything you'll likely need to get it set up, including a flexible stainless steel liner and a handy blower to push that cozy heat around. The firebox is built with refractory brick, helping to spread the warmth more evenly throughout the room. It's designed to handle wood logs up to 18 inches long, and can warm up areas from 500 to 1800 square feet.
Venting Requirements: This item requires a chimney with 6" inner diameter.

Can this Drolet Escape 1500-I wood-burning fireplace insert be adapted for a rear fresh air intake using flexible ducting, given an existing hole on the back of the previous burner?
The optional fresh air intake kit for this insert is designed to connect to a rectangular knock-out plate on either the left or right side of the convection air jacket. The installation manual does not specify a rear connection, so we cannot confirm if the existing hole on the back can be adapted for a rear fresh air intake. While the manual permits the use of flexible pipe for the intake, it must be of HVAC type, insulated, and compliant with ULC S110 and/or UL 181, Class 0 or Class 1 standards. It must also be secured with pipe clamps to an outdoor wall termination installed outside the building. For any modifications beyond these specifications, manufacturer approval would be required.
