Customer Q&A with Product Specialists

Eric G. from Michigan asked:
How close to the roof ridge can this flashing be used?
How close to the roof ridge can this flashing be used?
The DuraVent DuraTech All-Fuel Chimney Flat to 6/12 Pitch Roof Flashing is designed for roof pitches ranging from 0/12 to 6/12. While there isn't a specific minimum distance from the roof ridge, the flashing's dimensions (20" D x 27 3/16" W) require adequate flat roof slope for proper installation and a watertight seal. For installations directly at the roof ridge, specialized 'Ridge Type Flashings' are typically recommended due to their V-shaped base. Please be aware that building codes generally mandate the chimney extend a minimum of 3 feet above the roof penetration and be at least 2 feet higher than any building structure within 10 feet.

Eric G. from Swartz Creek Michigan asked:
I recently replaced my roof and installed a new flashing for my 6-inch DuraTech DuraVent chimney. I have an elbow below the roofline that offsets from the ridge. The new flashing didn't provide enough room for the pipe to pass through without an angle. Would a straight installation have been a better option, or is this acceptable?

While offsets are generally permissible, a straight vertical installation is considered more efficient and less prone to creosote buildup, making it the preferable option if feasible. If an offset is unavoidable, ensure it is properly supported with at least one Elbow Strap per offset for stability and safety.

Kevin L. from NY asked:
Is this really made of galvalume?
Is this really made of galvalume?
The DuraVent 6DT-F6 flashing is typically made of galvalume. Some sources also mention aluminum, but galvalume is more commonly stated as the material. Galvalume is a steel alloy that has been coated with an alloy of aluminum and zinc.
