I have purchased new construction and there is a direct vent empire DVD32FP30P-3 fireplace installed; however, there is no screen only a solid glass pane that restricts the heat that can enter the room. Is there a way to purchase the screen and then glass doors and have my local installer replace the solid glass?
1 Answer
Direct Vent means that the unit gets 100% of its combustion air from outside the home and vents 100% of the by-product to the outside. In order for those (direct vent) units to do so the glass is sealed and fixed.
So there is no option to use that unit without the sealed glass. Any open front gas fireplaces are either natural vent (class A or B-vented) or a vent free unit.

Not sure what the description means by "operable". Is there a flat plain glass in addition to this door? Confused.
1 Answer
The "operable" label means that the doors on the front can be opened and closed. There will not be glass on them, as this is meant strictly as a barrier that goes over the sealed glass front of a direct vent fireplace.
