What is the opening of this corner mantel. Will the Dimplex 39" Deluxe Built-in Electric Purefire Air Treatment fireplace box fit this Mantel?

Empire does not provide the exact opening size of this mantel because it is only suitable and intended for installation around select Empire 42" fireplaces. It is not intended for the Dimplex model and we do not recommend using this mantel with that unit.

If we decide to go with electric instead of gas for this, what would we need as far as a firebox and would it be possible to do that?

One option would be a vent free firebox with an electric log set. This allows you to install either gas or electric, or to change your mind down the road.
