How would I sync the remote to my fireplace?
I would start by replacing the batteries in the receiver at the fireplaces, as well. You may need to hit the "learn" button on the receiver and then the power button on the remote to resync the two together.

What is the auxiliary function?
The "auxiliary" function on your remote controls the AUX relay outlet. To activate this outlet, use the Mode Key to select the AUX icon, and then press the Up Arrow Key to turn the outlet on or the Down Arrow Key to turn it off. A single beep will confirm that the command has been received. This function is also available through the remote dimmer control (Light). If your system has the IFC Control Module, you can activate the auxiliary power outlet by using the Mode Key to index to the AUX icon. The intensity of the output can be adjusted through six levels using the Up/Down Arrow Keys. A single beep will confirm reception of the command. However, the AUX option may not control any components on your specific Empire fireplace, as not all models include auxiliary components.

The ProFlame 2 remote is designed for specific Empire fireplaces only and will not be compatible with your 4415 HO GSR2 Cozy Extrordinaire fireplace.

New remote fixed my problem
My gas fireplace has functioned flawlessly for about4 years but when I turned it on this fall, the thermostat function wouldn't work. I could turn the fireplace off and on remotely but the thermostat function was missing from the menu. I called and talked to a very nice tech who was quite sure the remote was the problem. He sold me a new one. It arrived a few days later, After pairing it with the controller, my fireplace is once again performing perfectly.
