Are the flames in pictures actual size or photo shopped?
The photo is provided to us from Empire Stoves directly. As for the flame size, that is a good representation of flame height on high when using Natural Gas. Propane fuel flame height will be slightly smaller.

Can it be placed directly on laminate floors, or does it need a prepared base?
Per the installation manual, this appliance must be installed on a flat, solid, continuous surface (e.g., wood, metal, concrete). This may be the floor or raised on a platform to enhance its visual impact. The continuous surface may be covered with carpeting, vinyl, wood flooring, or other combustible material.

For natural gas: 25,000 BTU max - 17,500 BTU min. For propane: 25,000 BTU max - 21,000 BTU min.

Can this be installed on an outdoor covered deck?
Unfortunately, this unit is not recommend to be installed in an outdoor setting. The cast iron frame of the unit will rust and corrode very quickly when exposed to the elements or humidity.

Works great!
Have had it set up for a week now and works great ,within 3-4 degrees consistantly! had a claim on 2 of the logs and was settled no problem,shipped and received inside a week! Fast iron top and all 3 sides helps radiate well within minutes !
