Are the flames in pictures actual size or photo shopped?
The photo is provided to us from Empire Stoves directly. As for the flame size, that is a good representation of flame height on high when using Natural Gas. Propane fuel flame height will be slightly smaller.

Per the installation manual, this appliance must be installed on a flat, solid, continuous surface (e.g., wood, metal, concrete). This may be the floor or raised on a platform to enhance its visual impact. The continuous surface may be covered with carpeting, vinyl, wood flooring, or other combustible material.

For natural gas: 25,000 BTU max - 17,500 BTU min. For propane: 25,000 BTU max - 21,000 BTU min.
