The flames are really small in the photo. Are they adjustable or is that it?
That is due to that unit being a special low (10,000) BTU unit. They have other versions with more BTUs that would have a higher flame.

While you can use your own materials around this unit, typically you will need noncombustible materials around the edges of a unit such as this. Please see the owner's manual for more details regarding clearance requirements.
