Yes, it is normal if you have a millivolt system, as these systems typically feature a standing pilot light that remains on. However, it is not normal if you have an electronic or IPI (Intermittent Pilot Ignition) system, as these are designed to shut off the pilot light when not in use.

From the owners manual for this remote: The factory setting for temperature is ºF. To change this setting to ºC, press the ON key and the OFF key on the transmitter at the same time. Follow this same procedure to change from ºC back to ºF.

This may also be an issue of the batteries in the receiver needing to be changed. Once the batteries in the remote and the receiver have been replaced, the pairing process will need to be completed. This procedure is outlined in the installation manual for the remote system.

Not Just the Remote!
We were expecting to just get the remote, as that was all we really needed. However, it was the full implementation (control unit and remote). We went ahead and replaced the control unit since we weren't sure how old it was. Both make our fireplace more practical to use, and it's fun for the child in us to just grab the remote and surprise visitors.

Great addition to the never worry about temp again!
This product is exactly what it says it is. I have to say this is one of the best additions I’ve gotten for my home. I will be the first to admit that I don’t know anything about these thermostats and really didn’t think they would be that good. I was so wrong. With the weather changes and being home so much with all that’s going on in the world it was so hard to get the temperature right in my home, but no longer.
