We recently bought this house, and the previous owners didn't leave the transmitter for the SkyTech Model 1410-A. There's a key for the fireplace, but trying to use it to turn on the fireplace didn't work. Do we need to purchase a transmitter to operate the fireplace?
Hi Felinda, The SkyTech 1410 Hand-Held On/Off Remote Control system includes a 2-button On/Off transmitter. Therefore, if the original transmitter is missing, you would need to purchase this kit to operate your fireplace with a remote. The key is used to open the shutoff valve, allowing gas to flow to the fireplace's main control valve.

Fireplace remote was easy to install
I had a Skytech 1410 that after 15 years had gone bad. I ordered a new replacement, and although it at first seemed daunting, it was merely a matter of replacing the wires, and splicing where necessary. Installation took about 15 minutes. I would consider the more deluxe controller next time

Easy Installation

Plug In Receiver Box
My previous remote lasted for fourteen years. Toward the end of its life, I had to frequently replace the batteries in both the remote and the receiver box. It became quite finicky and had to be pressed or held a certain way in order to function. This new remote seems like it will work quite well as a replacement. The receiver box actually plugs into an outlet instead of being powered by batteries. I think this will be much better than having to constantly replace batteries in the receiver. It only took a few minutes to install this product, and it works quite well. I am very pleased with this product.
