The diameter must be slightly smaller than 6" diameter that it can be moved up and down, but how does this not allow smoke to escape? This pipe does 'slip' inside the existing pipe, correct? The 1.5" overlap you mention is the collared end that connects to the crimped end of the existing pipe?

    1 Answer
All stovepipe connections are manufactured to where the male connection is facing downward toward the stove flue so that creosote or any water is directed into the stove's combustion chamber. The slip connection would indeed slip into the last section of stovepipe pointed toward the ceiling support box and slide over the male connection of the support box or chimney adapter. The slip section is then held in place via sheet metal screws.

Can this slip joint be used with hardware store generic pipe?
    1 Answer
Yes, this slip joint can be utilized in any 24-gauge, single-wall stove pipe with a 6" inner diameter. The overall length is 11" and it can be used to add up to 9.5" of additional length to your stovepipe installation. A minimum of 1.5" of the joint must overlap the pipe to which it is connected.

When you say 6" is that the pipe diameter or its length or both?
    1 Answer
The 6" description refers to the diameter of the slip connector. The overall length is 11" and it can be used to add up to 9.5" of additional length to your stovepipe installation. A minimum of 1.5" of the connector must overlap the pipe it is connected to.

    Too Tight
Once this is slid into a pipe far enough to insert between stove and ceiling, it is very difficult to then extend it to the proper length. Doesn't have enough of a lip to tap on with a hammer, screwdriver, or a 2 x 4. There are probably some manufacturers of 6" stove pipe that have a slightly bigger ID for this to slide. The better solutions are the 2 piece telescoping pipes, as they are designed/mated with each other to allow easier sliding.

    Straight flue installations require this
Boy I wish I'd gotten this earlier. I've got a straight run from the stove through the ceiling and I about killed myself trying to vent the stove until I got this! It's essential in a straight vent pipe situation.
Cheap and easy to use. None

    6" Slip Pipe Worked Great
The long end of this slip pipe is made with a slightly smaller diameter just under 6". With a little thumb pressure it will fit into a standard single wall black stove pipe and freely slide so that you can make the perfect fit at the ceiling every time with no cutting of stove pipe.
reasonable price probably not explained well in the add as to how the one end is made slightly smaller to fit inside a normal 6" pipe, and also that a little thumb pressure is needed at first to slide it in.
