The edges do not taper, they are straight up and down.

Unfortunately, it is not recommended to cut the Hy-C stove boards. The finished edges wrap around the fiber board under the black steel. If you cut or damage the edges it can cause the board to crumble, crack or deteriorate which would compromise it's R-value and protective capabilities.
