Can this fireplace insert be vented by running up an existing chimney about 4 feet and then horizontally out the back of the chimney?
Unfortunately, we cannot recommend that venting configuration. The Kingsman IDV34 is a co-linear direct vent insert that utilizes two 3-inch flex pipes for intake and exhaust. These pipes are designed to run up an existing chimney to a vertical termination cap at the top. Our product information indicates that horizontal venting is not available for this insert, and we have not found any manufacturer approval for turning the vent horizontally partway up and exiting out the back of the chimney. For detailed vertical termination instructions, please refer to the installation manual. We strongly recommend that venting be installed by a local NFI certified hearth professional or chimney sweep. You can find a certified professional in your area at https://www.nficertified.org/public/.
