A great way to deflect heat coming out of your fireplace is a Monessen flat black adjustable fireplace hood. If the underside of your mantel is getting a little too hot, a fireplace hood is the perfect accessory for you. This Monessen hood can adjust from 28 inches to 48 inches.
WARNING: This part is designed to be used with a product that operates with one of the following fuel sources: liquid propane, natural gas, wood, or wood pellets. The hood can be surface mounted above any fireplace but not directly affixed to the appliance. We have access to the exact replacement hood that attaches directly to the fireplace.

Simple to set up and very easy to install. Looks good on the fireplace and does a nice job of deflecting heat out and away from our fireplace trim work and mantle. Exactly what we were looking for.
