What is that protruding metal running across the width of the fireplace about 2/3 of the way up?
What is that protruding metal running across the width of the fireplace about 2/3 of the way up?
That part is actually inside the firebox, sloped from front to the back, basically the "ceiling" of the firebox.

Is this a high-efficiency unit?
Is this a high-efficiency unit?
Linear direct vent fireplaces such as this model tend to be more focused on style and aesthetics as opposed to straight-up efficiency.  This model would not be considered high-efficiency.  The high-efficiency direct vent models we sell are more in the traditional style, with louvers (vents) above and below the glass front and a log set instead of glass/stones.

Judi from colorado asked:
Can a tv be put above this?
Can a tv be put above this?
Yes.  We would recommend either recessing the television or installing a mantel shelf above the fireplace, with the television above the shelf, not protruding out over the front of the fireplace.
