The ash can serves as a safe place for ashes to cool down, preventing embers from spreading into the room. Instead of leaving ashes in the firebox, you transfer them to the bucket, close the tight-fitting lid, and place it on a non-combustible surface. The lid contains the ash and smothers any remaining embers, while the double-walled, air-insulated bottom of this Pilgrim bucket protects your floor from residual heat during the cooling process.

The ash should cool in the bucket for 24 to 48 hours before disposal. It's important to empty the bucket once the ash is fully cool, as prolonged contact with alkaline wood ash can shorten the bucket's lifespan.

This bucket is designed for spent and cooling ash, not for live, glowing coals. Always allow glowing coals to burn down completely before transferring ash.
