Can I apply this mantel to a brick wall?

You can indeed. In order to mount the wall cleat, you will need a masonry bit and a hammer drill to install anchors into the masonry. Once this is complete, you can mount the mantel as you would normally.

    How is this mantel installed?
    1 Answer
In order to install this item, the legs must first be attached to the breastboard using the supplied hardware. The legs will have tapped holes that correspond to the breastboard. The included wall cleat must then be mounted to the wall or masonry, using anchors. The entire assembly will then attach to the cleat.

Can the legs be cut down a little?
    1 Answer
You would definitely be able to trim down this mantel to fit your needs. The one thing to keep in mind, though, is that trimming the bottom of this mantel would mean trimming the decorative plinth. This may detract from the finished appearance of the mantel.

Very good product and good value
Very good product for the price with some minor issues
Well made, everything fitted well, quality of machining excellent. Good hard wood and very attractive design. Cardboard package broken open at one end on delivery - luckily product not damaged inside. There was a significant gap between the horizontal shelf and the piece below. Screws had stripped. Quickly fixed with longer screws which I recommend should be used by the manufacturer. Wood does not take stain in a uniform way - it tends to have lighter and darker patches and the vertical columns do not take the stain the same way as the mantel (see images). Personally I like the effect but if you want a more uniform color you might want to paint it.

    Beautiful, great value
My husband and I purchased this mantel for a complete fireplace renovation. We chose to go unfinished because we have had some experience with staining. I would not recommend unfinished unless you have experience with finishing wood. It probably won't be worth your while if you have to buy all the supplies. We already had the brushes, stain and finisher from other wood products, so we were able to save a little money this way. It turned out beautiful. The mantel itself is very strong and sturdy, and looks classy. It came quickly and was packaged satisfactorily to keep it safe. We will be enjoying this for years to come. Thanks for a great product. We would order again from this company in the future.

    Well made
The mantel looked good out of the box. I ordered a paint grade and it looked great after just primer. Well worth the price.

    Not Stainable
I stained this and it did not take the stain well at all. I had to sand off the stain and then prime it and then had to paint it. The wood seemed too hard and would not accept the stain. Very disappointing.
This is a good product if you want to paint it. Did not stain well at all.

    Very Attractive with Brick
This mantel adds another dimension of attraction to an otherwise boring wall of brick. Don't know why I didn't buy one earlier.

    Can't Beat This Value
After already using up most of the budget during some home construction projects, I was looking for an aesthetically pleasing, functional, and inexpensive mantel. Pearl really delivered on this one. With a little bit of help from my father (okay, he built the whole thing), I am ready to get it on the fireplace and start painting. I just couldn't believe the value for how well-built it is.

    Comes Unstained, Stains Well
Picture should show it without stain. Staining it was easy enough though.

Good for the Price, Looks Professional When Done
I think that, for how much it costs, you really can't beat it in terms of value delivered. That being said, I am a perfectionist. I tend to notice little things that others do not. Once the mantel is fitted together, there are small gaps to be covered by trim (which is provided); however, I had to add to the trim around my fireplace to get it to go all the way up to the mantel. This obviously isn't their fault in any way, but it would be nice if they included some extra trim to connect with the fireplace. I actually managed to get it to look very professional with a little bit of wood that I had left over from other projects. I do have to admit, once it is all put together, properly stained/painted, and installed in the fireplace, It is a very well done piece of furniture.

    Ships Very Well
Although I haven't completely finished getting the mantel onto our fireplace, it seems to be pretty straightforward. For shipping something this big, I'm surprised how quickly it came and how pristine it was. The color we painted it matches the colors in our room very well, and this has turned out to be a great choice.
