I have tile behind the fireplace. Can I just freestand this mantel?

The mantel will need to be anchored to the wall in some way, as it has a front heavy nature. A wall cleat is provided for this purpose, but it would require the use of fasteners to penetrate the tile. Another option would be to utilize a double sided adhesive material, such a 3M Command adhesive strips.

This item is a fiberboard fireplace mantel, which consists of a shelf, breastboard, and vertical legs. The area that remains between the fireplace itself and the mantel should be covered with a noncombustible veneer of your choosing.

For a masonry fireplace, the generally accepted rule is at least 12 inches from the top of the opening. For a prefabricated gas or wood fireplace, this information would be indicated in the product literature.

Beautiful Fireplace Surround
I was looking through the web trying to find a nice surround and mantel to build out of wood. Everything was very complicated and beyond my expertise. A friend suggested that I purchase a prebuilt one. I googled them and I stumbled onto this one. I purchased my gas fireplace, installation hardware and piping, and other items from eFireplaceStore in the past and they have never done me wrong. I was so excited to put it together. I thought it was going to take a long time but it went together in less than 30 minutes. It looks beautiful around my gas fireplace. I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a beautiful surround/mantel for their gas fireplace.
Nice quality, beautiful looking finish, stylish, installs quickly, very affordable.

Gorgeously crafted mantle!!
Beautiful and sturdy. It made my living room look elegant. I can't wait to turn the fire place on in the next few months.
It enhances and completes the plain brick basic decoration. The white finish on the wood is flawless.
Had to wait to get a carpenter with the right tools to put it together. Two people are needed to put it together.

Beautiful and easy to install
Love the price, the look and the ease of installing!
Price, ease, look.
The only issue we had, really had nothing to do with the mantle itself. We had to make adjustments to the mantle due to issues with how our walls were built, but it still turned out very nicely and is a great improvement to the look of our living room.

New Fireplace
We just purchased a new (to us!) house, and for the first time in many years, we did not have a fireplace - an essential down here in Florida. Since we don't really need much heat, we bought a small direct vent unit to run off bottled propane. One installed, we started the finishing process, and a mantle - we're fairly traditional - was needed. I did a lot of web surfing, and budget was a driving factor. I'm no wood worker, but the thought of building one did cross my mind until I discovered Pearl mantles. The price was less that I think I could have fashioned one from lumber for, and far better looking that what I know I could produce.
Pearl had one to fit our fireplace perfectly, and in the right style. Finish and assembly was perfect.
None that we can think of.
