Can the stove be installed inside a fireplace hearth where only the front would be exposed to fresh air? The legs would be on so intake air would still be able to come from underneath.

This wood stove is designed to be installed in the living space of a home where air can circulate around all sides of the stove. The situation you are describing would be considered an alcove installation which requires large clearances around and above the stove to keep the appliance from overheating.
