So far so good

The order was processed and delivered timely, however the fireplace insert has only been in service for a couple of days as it was just installed. This purchase replaced a 40 year old fisher insert. First impressions are: 1. It is quite small! This is not a bad thing as we are aging and handling smaller pieces of wood is okay with me. At this point I’m concerned about ash buildup accumulating comparatively quickly and needing frequent cleaning however I’m hoping that we will learn how to reduce this issue with continued use. 2. It produces good heat and the fan pushes it well. We overheated the place by several degrees in the first few hours of use. So far it’s held a fire overnight, about 6 hours, with a good base of coals to start up in the morning. 3. We’re loving the glass door as we haven’t been able to see the fire for decades. 4. In comparison the new insert is way smaller and lighter than the original insert and burns less wood while keeping the place warm. We haven’t had any really cold weather yet. 5. The damper handle is not well located and feels flimsy. Overall we’re happy so far. I probably would have ended up paying more for a larger and “fancier” unit if I had shopped in person, but I think this little insert is going to work for us. The insert is crooked and wonky in this photo, it is propped up as the tile work is in progress.

Nice Fireplace Insert

We got tired of having all or heat just go up the chimney. And worse yet, it was drawing air in from everywhere else in the house. So we started looking for an insert. Best thing we did this year. Keeps our family room and most of the first floor warm. Looks nice, too.

Pros

Easy to install for someone with medium construction skills. Burns all night on a load of wood. Very efficient.

Cons

Haven't found any yet.
